Topic of the Week, words that begin with the letter "O"

O is for Open Mind. I was thinking mine wasn't very open, I realized it would be just much easier, just to add to each letter each week, instead of starting a new letter each trying to remember a new word or concept.

Recovery is discipline, but I don't think we should limit ourselves either and we need to be open to new things and we need to stretch our boundaries.

As I have said before, "Don't keep such an open mind that everything falls out of it," but don't keep it so closed that nothing new can come in and refresh your soul.

O is for Ouch! Are you hurting! Is it physical, or are your mental and emotional pains making themselves known through your body trying to get your attention. Are you looking for an out? Are you trying to ignore things and stuffing feelings, using food and busy to not deal with an issue and they are causing an ouch?

O is for Options. I do not have an option. For me to relapse is to die. I choose to live. We are given freedom of choice, which option do you choose?

O is for Older. Thanks to the program, I got to live. I thought I would never live to be forty and here I am at a ripe old age, and life keeps going on, an on. One day at a time.

I get to live the wonders that I missed for many years and experience the things I missed, and if I am open to it, I can relive those moments I missed out on.

O is for Opposite. When I was new to recovery, my sponsor told me to do the opposite of what I what I thought, because my best thinking got me to the doors of recovery and it no longer served me and I had to change it. It wasn't the drinking and the drugs, it was me that was the problem. I had to open my mind to new ideas and concept and learn a new way of thinking.

O is for One Day At A Time. All I have to do is deal with one days feelings, thoughts and actions. Just for this one day, I chose not to use people, places and things to take me out of my reality. I choose to stay in today and live clean and sober for this ONE day.
