Topic of the week, Words that begin with the letter "R"

R is for Run. If you feel like using or you start getting that stinking thinking, run, don't walk to the nearest meeting. Run to the phone and call your sponsor before you pick up instead of after you follow the thought with action with irrational action.

R is for Relax. Remember to relax. Take time to nurture yourself. You need to give your body time to heal and process the information your receive. Remember it is progress not perfection. Rome wasn't built in a day. Recovery doesn't happen overnight.

R is for Remember When. Remember what it was like the morning after the night before. Remember the cost of that first drink and where it took you. Remember the price paid, not just in dollars and cents. Remember what it was like the first weeks of recovery, for me, that was the worst, something I never wanted to repeat.

R is for Rest. Remember to take time out and allow yourself to heal. Give yourself time to heal. Don't rest on your laurels, what you have done in the past won't keep you sober in today. What we do in today and the choices we make in today, gives us hope for a better tomorrow.

R is for Rescue. We can only help someone if they want d on't want help. We can do intervention, but that doesn't say it will work. We can't save them from themselves unless they want help. No one could tell me, so why should I think I can tell someone else, just because I have been there and done it myself, doesn't make me a leading authority. I haven't walked in their shoes, and they can't see through my eyes, no matter how vivid a picture I paint. They have to see and want for themselves. The key is remembering that I am NOT their God. I need to turn them over to their Higher Power.
