Topic of the week, words that begin with the letter "E"
E is for Each. Each day is a new beginning. Each day I get to experience my feelings, handle situations, and deal on life's terms as they arrive without having to pick up that first drink.

E is for "Easy does it...but do it!" They say it is a simple program for people who like to complicate it. There is no race to be run, so easy does it. You deal with your issues, one day at a time, so easy does it, you didn't get this way overnight, so everything isn't made right away. Recovery is a process, it is finding a program that works for you. I can be sober, but if I want sobriety (soundness of mind), I have to continue working on my emotions, my spiritual condition, and all aspect of my dis-ease. The drugs I used were but a symptom of my disease. The problem was me, so if I don't continue to work the program and apply it to all areas of my life, I set myself to slip (sobriety loses it priority). When I surrender to the program, I am empowered to do what I need to do, one day at a time.

E is for Expectations. I often expect myself to do everything right, but that is being a perfectionist. I needed to lower my expectations so they were attainable and not out of reach. When I don't meet my expectations, I tend to beat myself up; so I had to find a level of acceptance of my limitations and capabilities.

E is for Enlightenment. This is a spiritual program. As we stay clean and sober, and turn our day over to the God of our understanding, enlightenment comes if we are open to receive. The light bulb with go on and you will have a new outlook on life. When I surrender to my Higher Power, He enlightens me and empowers me to show me how to stay clean and sober in today.

E is for Emotions. They can be overwhelming. Turn them over, live in the moment, and let go and Let God. This is a one day at a time program.

E is for Each day is a new beginning. It is my favorite slogan. I like to follow it with, so have a good one, because thanks to the program, I do have freedom of choice. Each day I can choose how I will live that day. When I put my life into my God's Care, I know that I may have bad moments in a day, but I don't have to carry them through out the day, I can let them go, and ask myself, "How Important Is It?" Most times, it doesn't matter enough to spoil my day.

E is for Emotions. They can be very tiring. I need to become aware of them. Some are deep rooted and I have to go to the Source to get a true honest look at them. Some are so old, they have been blown all out of proportion and we have given them too much importance in today. This is a one day at a time program. We need to let go of our past and do what we need to do to let them go and not bring them, into today.

E is for Eat
Eat at regular hours. Don't skip meals. Eat healthy foods. Don't over eat. It is all about taking care of yourself. |
E is for Eleventh
Eleventh Step Prayer Higher Power, as I understand You, I pray to keep my connection with You open & clear from the confusion of daily life. Through my prayers & meditation I ask especially for freedom from self-will, rationalization & wishful thinking. I pray for the guidance of correct thought & positive action. Your will, Higher Power, not mine, be done. Amen. |
E is for Everything. What do you need to change when you come to recovery? I was told everything. What brought me to the doors of recovery will take me back out if I don't deal with it.

E is for Extend
Extend your hand, help another in his/her recovery, listen. |
E is for Emotions. We need to feel them in order to let them go. It can be painful working through them, but we are much enriched by having dealt with them.

E is for Ears
At AA meetings I can learn a lot by closing my mouth and opening my Ears. With open ears, I also need to have an open mind and heart. By listening to others experiences, strength, and hope, I can learn to live a life of sobriety. |
E is for Errors
We are all humans. We will make errors. Forgive yourself and move on. Remember to strive for progress not perfection. |
