The Negative Effect of Judging Others

The Negative Effect of Judging Others

Therefore you have no excuse or defense or justification, O man, whoever you are who judges and condemns another. For in posing as judge and passing sentence on another, you condemn yourself, because you who judge are habitually practicing the very same things [that you censure and denounce].
—Romans 2:1

In other words, the very same things that we judge others for, we do ourselves. The Lord gave me a very good example once to help me understand this principle. I was pondering why we would do something ourselves and think it was perfectly all right, but judge someone else who does it. He said, "Joyce, you look at yourself through rose-colored glasses, but you look at everyone else through a magnifying glass."

We make excuses for our own behavior, but when someone else does the same thing we do, we are often merciless. Doing unto others as we want them to do to us (See Matthew 7:12) is a good life principle that will prevent a lot of judgment and criticism, if followed. A judgmental mind is an offshoot of a negative mind—thinking about what is wrong with an individual instead of what is right. Be positive and not negative! Others will benefit, but you will benefit more than anyone.

When I judge others, I am forgetting that for every finger I point out to, I have three coming back at me.

The best way to deal with the issue is do a Step 10.

Made me think of this quote: If you judge people, you have no time to love them. - Mother Teresa

Why judge when this is a program of reflection? I found myself by listening to others at meetings and sharing with others. As the saying goes, `It takes one to know one. `

When I judge, it makes me look bad. As this little guy says, ``Open up your heart and let the love come out.``
