TOPIC OF THE WEEK - WORDS BEGINNING WITH "I"

I is for Inch. When we are given an inch, don't take a mile. This is not a quick fix program, each Step is taken in increments, and are a way of life. You don't take them once and think you are finished, they are a way of life.

I is for Insurance. I made deposits in my life insurance plan every time I went to a meeting. So glad I did, now that I can't always get to a meeting, my account is now paying dividends and I got interest on my securities. When an insecurity pops up, I know I can change it into a positive.

I is for Ill. I had to recognize my addiction as a disease. There was no known cure, but I could get daily reprieve, using the tools of recovery. My disease never goes away, it is always there, waiting for that inch that I might give it as a result of decisions made or as a result of not picking up the tools of recovery to deal with the issues in my life.

I is for Identify your triggers. When you identify your triggers, you can also identify the tools of recovery that you can use to overcome the triggers, thus remain sober and clean.

J is for Juice. We need to drink healthy and stay away from old triggers. For me it was flavoured coffee. For a while I had to stay away from orange juice in early recovery because I mixed it with gin and vodka, and although that wasn't my drink of choice, I knew that one drink will lead me back to my drink of choice. I loved a lot of the cocktails that included alcohol, and just asking for a 'virgin' one, still have me thoughts behind the drinking. I had to turn it all over to my God and ask for the healing.

I is for "I"

First Step Prayer:

I admit that I am powerless over my addiction.
I admit that my life is unmanageable when I try to control it.
Help me this day to understand the true meaning of powerlessness.
Remove from me all denial of my addiction.

I is for Invite. Invite your God into your life each day, don't wait to call when issues in your life overwhelm you.

I is for Instruments. We are given the tools to stay clean and sober, one day at a time. It is my choice as to whether I make the decision to pick up the instrument I need in the moment.

Isolation and relapse are part of my disease. They are not tools of recovery.

Not drinking is a symptom of your recovery.
If you have recovery show it, but more importantly live it.

My God doesn't do it for me, he intercedes for us and gives us what we need, one day at a time. The tools and the good orderly direction is there, if we are open to receive. Just because I have a feeling or stinking thinking, doesn't mean I have to act on it. I am given that moment to pause and make a decision as to whether I am going to turn it over or act out on it.

I is for Intellect. You can't intellectualize this program. I should know, I tried. Don't try to think it out, just accept and follow the suggestions and have faith that they will lead you to where you need to be. Put yourself in God's Care, He has interest in you and His eyes are on you.
