Came to Believe

Quote:

1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Walking into the recovery rooms and seeing others stay clean and sober gave me hope that I could too.

I could not comprehend the long-term recovery, it was the people who were also new to recovery with 3-6 months sober that impressed me. I was too overwhelmed to think in years of sobriety and I had to realize that they all did it one day at a time.

I thought I knew who God was. I thought I was in the know and yet here I was, knocking at the door of recovery and fearful of taking the first step. I just kept coming back and the miracle happened for me. I got to a year sober and had to reinvent my concept of my God. I started a spiritual journey which I hope will never end.

This was posted in 2010.

Today my hope is from coming to the sites and sharing with others and seeing newcomers joining the site and members posting and sharing their recovery.

Quote:

Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may feel that God is not too far away to depend on for help. I pray that I may feel confident of His readiness to give me the power that I need.

AA Thought for Today from Hazeldon
When I am willing to let go, I am empowered to do what I need to do for myself.

I love this quote. The power is there. I just have to remember and trust that it is there. It is up to me to develop the faith and believe that my Higher Power knows what is best for me and is there to lead and direct.

I had lost a lot of faith as a result of my life prior to recovery. It was something I had to redefine. When I came into recovery, I thought I knew who God was only to find that I didn't have a loving concept, only a fearful one.

I came, I came to, and I came to believe, that the program will work for me, if I take my God with me.

Every where I go, I take me with me. If I am in a place that isn't good for you, remember you have freedom of choice, and we are where we are at as a result of decisions made.

If I am feeling lonely, maybe I forgot to take God with me.
