Why do some of us wait so long?

So people want to work the program at the their own pace, but I could not wait 20 years to find someone to be my sponsor. I need some to help unpack my baggage.:61:

Generally Recovery Fellowships are the last resort. They would rather go into a mental hospital than go to AA, NA, Al-Anon, GA, OA, etc.

Why wait until Step 6 to address your issues? Why continue to act out in your disease until you absolutely have to. We become dry drunks, when we just put the plug in the jug.

A sponsor keeps us focused and directed to where we need to go. They aren't suppose to do it for us, but they do have a shoulder to lean on, even if they don't carry us. This is a we program, and a sponsor was a "we" that I needed to put in my life, along with my home group members, and the many members who I got telephone #s. We have to take down the barriers and let go of the fear.
