Going Back

Going Back

Elderly people are not the only ones who reminisce with fondness about the past. Sometimes when the present moment seems difficult and unfulfilling, the temptation is to think that things were better for us in times gone by. But even when the present looks bleak, would we really want to go back and experience our lives as they once were? Who would want to trade the knowledge and hard-won wisdom of life experience for the immaturities of the past?

Compare yourself now to what you were in the past. When you catch a glimpse of the spiritual and psychological growth that has become a part of you over time, you can be thankful for what you are at the present moment. And perhaps the best is yet to come!

Help me to see how my life has grown and evolved over time, Lord, so that I might be more content, and more grateful for the wisdom you have given me.
