Default Family

By us entering into recovery those around us are affected by this, sometimes it's in a good way, other times it's not. A long period of reconstruction is ahead for all those involved with us now that we're in recovery. Unfortunately not everyone in our family will be willing to do the work, to do what it takes for things to improve in our families. This is one of the hardest things about recovery. Sometimes we'll have to leave them behind. We can't risk them tearing us down, or our new found recovery. As we grow further along in our own recovery we'll see the necessity of doing this even though we don't like that we have to do it. Besides doing this the best we can do is to try to live by the program of recovery as best as we can. This will keep the door open for them so that maybe one day they can come join us, and it shows them they can get better if they want to, and if they don't want to, then it's probably best that we distance ourselves from them.
