Default Send Me, Jesus

“Send Me, Jesus,” ELW 549

Send me, Jesus; send me, Jesus;
send me, Jesus; send me, Lord. (Send me, Jesus.)

I am willing; I am willing;
I am willing, willing, Lord. (Send me, Jesus.)

Only two short verses; it's a pretty simple song, a prayer really. When we sing this in light of this week's scripture readings, it is a pretty bold prayer, almost audaciously bold. When we ask to be sent by God, we are asking to be opened to all the possibilities, all the needs, all the suffering. But still we dare to sing in faith, knowing that wherever and however we are sent, God is with us. We sing that we are willing, and by God's grace we go to serve, to meet the needs of others, to care for this world that God cares for, and to suffer with those who suffer. We don't go for glory or status; all that we need has already been given. Send us Lord; we are willing.

By your grace we pray that you would continue to make us bold, make us willing and able to follow you. Make us willing and able to go where you will send us. Help us to trust that you are there to meet us wherever we go. Amen.
