Default Self-control to Let Go

SELF-CONTROL TO LET GO

When we get mad about a situation or about what someone has done and we continue to talk about it and brood over it, we are trying to control our feelings in a negative way. The best form of self-control is when we let things go and let God take control. It is harder to get past the hurt and resentment when we continue to hold things in. God wants us to have the self-control to let go. And we can only do that with His help.

Ephesians 4:31 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us move past the resentment and hurt we have in our lives right now. There is someone who we need to forgive. There is someone who we need to love. There is someone who we need to help. And we can’t do these things when we continue to be upset with them. Show us Your love today and help us to have enough self-control to let go and let You take control. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Godly self-control isn’t about controlling ourselves to get what we want. It is about letting God take control so we can live only for Him.

When we stop holding on to bitterness and hate for others, we can let go and let God fill our minds with goodness and love.

Bitterness and anger not only make us have a bad day, bitterness and anger shows others we can’t control our own emotions.

If we choose to stay upset with someone for any reason, we are pushing God away as well.

When we have the self-control to get rid of all the negativity in our minds, God can use us to help one another.

Ephesians 4:32 “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (NLT)

Focus: Have the self-control to let go and let God get rid of the wrong thoughts and attitudes in your minds.
