Default conversation at check-out

One day while waiting in the check-out line at a local grocery store,
I struck up a conversation with a distinguished lady about marriage.
As it turns out, I was on my third wife, and she happened to be
on her fourth husband.

“I grew up very poor,” she said. “So, I married a banker.”

I listened intently, as she continued.

“He passed away unexpectedly, and after a period of mourning,
a friend of mine extended an invitation to a Broadway play,
where I met a handsome actor. And as it turns out,
we married six months later. Unfortunately, three years later
he was killed in a plane crash. The whole thing was tragic,
and left me devastated.”

“Oh my, what on earth did you do?” I asked.

“Well, during that ordeal of my husband's memorial services,
a pastor at a church here in town comforted me so in my loss,
and after ample time had transpired, we engaged in a courtship
of heavenly proportions and ended up marrying each other.”

“Oh no, what happened to him?”

“Well, he died suddenly of a heart attack one night in his sleep.”

“And the fourth husband?”

“He is the caretaker at the funeral home that handled the burial of my previous husband.”

“Wow,” I said. “So this must be it?” “Most certainly,”she replied.
“Without a doubt, I can now say,'One for the money, two for the show,
three to get ready...and four to go!'”
