Default Step Ten for Maintenance

Al-Anon's Step 10:

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were
wrong promptly admitted it.

For me, Step Ten tells me to continue working the program. The program is on going and often I may not feel I am wrong about a situation, if it comes up again, there is a chance I should look at it. My sponsor always said, "Clean your side of the street, make things right with the God of your understanding and you can't go wrong."

I made an amend to a friend one day. She seemed surprised that I said anything and didn't realize I had done anything wrong. I had to speak up because my action didn't sit right with me. I got up and left the meeting while she was sharing. It might have been alright by her, but for me it was rude and should have waited until she was finished. I was already in pain, waiting for a couple of minutes wouldn't have made a difference.

It is my thinking behind my dis-ease that takes me back into old patterns and behavior. I must remember, my recovery begins with me, not the A in my life. I have freedom of choice and I need to exercise that right, one day at a time.

When I procrastinate, things turn into mountains instead of mole hills. I have a magic magnifying mind that can blow things all out of proportion, especially when I put someone else into the equation.
