Default Comfort Zone And Comfort Clothes

Comfort Zone And Comfort Clothes

2 Corinthians 1:4 - Who comforts us in all troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (NIV)

I am sure we all have them or have had them at some time in our lives: "comfort clothes" -- that shirt that one's spouse has tried to throw out or that pair of shoes that fits like no other. When we put these items on, we feel all cozy and comforted; when we are sick or feeling down, how that comfort blanket helps us to feel better.

My comfort clothing is an old blue sweatshirt with a hood and drawstrings. It can be worn for only about three or four months during the winter. I find it hard to put away the cool summer clothes and get out the clothes that will keep the coolness of winter away from me. It is made easier, though, when I come across my blue sweatshirt with the cuff now frayed and seeming this year a bit less blue in colour. We haven't had a cold enough day for me to wear it yet, but I await that day in anticipation.

Sometimes we need to step out into our day and into the world of the unknown. We may not be able to wear or take our comfort clothes with us. Yet we must not lose heart, for we have a greater comfort -- and his name is Jesus. We don't need the right season or time of day to put Him on. He is always with us, and brings us more comfort than we could ever wish for. He just loves to surround us with His comfort and love. There is no one greater to give us comfort.

Revelation 22:13 - I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we praise and thank You that You are our great Comforter. Help us to bring Your comfort and Your love to our family and friends. Enable us to take Your great comfort out into the world in which we live. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
