Walking Through The Pain

ďWe never have to use again, no matter how we feel. All feelings will eventually pass.Ē

Basic Text p. 79

It hurts like never before. You get out of bed after a sleepless night, talk to God, and still donít feel any better. ďIt will pass;Ē a little voice tells you. ďWhen?Ē you wonder, as you pace and mutter and get on with your day.

You sob in your car and turn the radio all the way up so you canít hear your own thoughts. But you go straight to work, and donít even think about using drugs.

Your insides feel as though theyíve been torched. Just when the pain becomes unbearable, you go numb and silent. You go to a meeting and wish you were as happy as other members seem to be. But you donít relapse.

You cry some more and call your sponsor. You drive to a friendís house and donít even notice the beautiful scenery because your inner landscape is so bleak. You may not feel any better after visiting your friend-but at least you didnít visit the connection instead.

You listen to a Fifth Step. You share at a meeting. You look at the calendar and realize youíve gotten through another day clean.

Then one day you wake up, look outside, and realize itís a beautiful day. The sun is shining. The sky is blue. You take a deep breath, smile again, and know that it really does pass.

Just for today: No matter how I feel today, Iíll go on with my recovery.
Didn't do well with this today, I slept the day away. I talked to my friend and my son who called me, and each time, I found myself going back to bed. I was only up for the 2 1/2 hours it took me to have lunch and post on the site. Woke up with a head ache. My son came by and cooked dinner, left over meatloaf, gravy, he had fries and I had sweet potatoes, and french cut green beans.

Hope to do some posting and catch up on my daily recorded programs Rachel Ray, The Chew, The Talk and Ellen DeGeneres. I had a bad headache and did a meditation and took an extra-strength program, which is a daily medication I take for my arthritis.

So many times in the past, I have gone to a meeting with a headache/migraine, and walked out with and the headache it gone and the migraine has eased. My meetings in today are coming on line and reading posts and sharing with others. It helps me to walk through the pain.
