Default Don'ts Of Sponsorship From The Big Book

1. Donít start off as an evangelist or reformer.

2. Donít deal with him when he is very drunk.

3. Donít refer to this Book unless heís seen it and wishes to discuss it.

4. Donít brand him as an alcoholic.

5. He doesnít have to see you if he doesnít want to. He shouldnít be pushed or prodded.

6. Donít wear out your welcome.

7. If he rebels about house cleaning, which required discussion with other people, donít contradict such views.

8. Never talk down from a moral or spiritual hilltop.

9. Donít be discouraged if he doesnít respond at once. Search out another alcoholic and try again.

10. Donít allow him to live in your home for a long time.

11. Argument and fault finding are to be avoided like the plague.

12. Donít participate in his family quarrels. Tell his family heís a very sick person and should be treated accordingly.

13. Never withdraw from your friends just because they drink.

14. Your job is now to be at the place where you may be of maximum helpfulness to others, so never hesitate to visit the most sordid spot on the earth. God will keep you unharmed.

15. Never show intolerance or hatred for drinking as an institution.
