Icon20 Hi all

I am 58 years old and have been sober from alcohol at various times in my life through the help of AA. I live and work in Germany now and have had lots of trouble putting together continuous sobriety. I stay sober a few months, weeks or days and then relapse again. Sometimes it takes days or weeks to get back on track. I want to stay sober for my husband and daughter but also for myself. I feel so much better when I don't drink! I attend AA meetings in English twice a week, but I'm not honest with my sponsor who is very BOSSY. I also work in a pro-drinking environment, but some coworker know of my struggle with alcohol and would be very supportive if i let them. So why don't I just STOP?? This site is great and I'm hoping becoming more involved will help.
With best wishes for us all,
Gingerlee

Welcome Gingerlee, so glad you made the decision to join us. Recovery for me is not picking up that first drink no matter what. In today, I have the tools to help me not pick up. Had had two thoughts when I read your post, "Pray for the willingness to be willing to not pick up. Ask for the obsession to be removed from you. It may be because you are in a foreign country that you only go to 2 meetings a week. That was not enough for me, my God put people in my life to show me a new way of living in sobriety.

There is a lot of recovery material here, hopefully some of it can help you, but you just can't beat the energy at a meeting and a f2f hug.
